"The Trophy Husband" -2004

This project was a joint venture between myself and another student, Matt Hornland, in a sculpture class taken at the University of Washington.  We wanted to do a commentary on how we percieved the concept of a Trophy Husband.  The catch, however, was to make it a successfully humorous piece that poked fun at the concept of a "trophy wife" and raise questions about whether or not "trophy husbands" really exist, and what role they play in today's society.

The initial piece consisted of an aluminum tie (made by Matt), the aluminum briefcase (illumination added later), and a stack of aluminum faux bills.  Next we shot a series of photos with a variety of very willings actors wherein the Trophy Husband was placed in the same position in each shot.  The emphasis of these shots is to show the husband as being arbitrarily placed in the scene and removed from the action.  The sequence of the photos and their depiction of a "day in the life" came together by chance after we selected our finals to go to print.  Finally the entire piece was presented with the inclusion of a fireplace mantle to proudly display the photos in their cheesy gold frames.
